Florence, the capital of Tuscany located at the foot of the Apennines Mountains, is one of the most popular city destinations famous for Gothic and Renaissance buildings, art galleries, museums and parks. UNESCO catalogued that 70 per cent of the world’s renaissance treasures are in Florence. Florence is a beautiful city with the Arno River running through it, lovely cobblestone streets opening up onto squares filled with amazing works of art. The picturesque Ponte Vecchio, the only bridge in Florence spared during World War II, with the old jewellery shops and goldsmiths connects the Uffizi Gallery to Palazzo Pitti on the left bank. The city architecture is very interesting and everywhere you look you will perceive a sensation of culture and art, it is not a coincidence that the best Italian University of Architecture is based here. Its many famous buildings include the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with the Brunelleschi Cupola, the Baptistery and the Giotto bell tower from where the view over the city rooftops is breathtaking. Piazza della Signoria containing the Fountain of Neptune is dominated by the majestic Palazzo Vecchio also known as Palazzo della Signoria. Michelangelo Park offers a fantastic view over the historic city of Florence and the church of Santa Croce contains the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Vittorio Alfieri and the operatic composer Rossini. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, hills covered with vineyards, the territory between Florence and Siena is the famous Chianti region producer of the world renowned Chianti wine.
