Florence is a city where sightseeing consists of museum after museum, there is so much art to take in that sometimes it is easy to rush through the sites trying to fit it all in. In order to avoid to waste time queuing for tickets, it is advisable to book them in advance, especially for the Uffizi Gallery, one of the world’s greatest art museums displaying works by Botticelli, Giotto, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian and Galleria dell’Accademia where Michelangelo’s sculpture of David is kept.

Piazza San Giovanni and the adjacent Piazza Duomo provide famous sights including the Baptistery, the Duomo itself - the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - and the Campanile also known as Giotto’s Bell Tower, which is open to visitors and the views over Florence rooftops are certainly worth the climb. The L shaped Piazza della Signoria has many works of art including the fountain of Neptune and the equestrian statue of Cosimo. Florence is a lovely city just to walk around, especially along the Arno River banks adorned by beautiful bridges, the most characteristic of them is Ponte Vecchio.

This covered bridge that houses old jewellery shops and silversmiths connects the Uffizi Gallery to Palazzo Pitti on the left bank. Other places to see are Palazzo Vecchio or Palazzo della Signoria, Palazzo Pitti and the church of Santa Maria Novella. Florence is also blessed with lovely restaurants and cafés where to enjoy tasty Tuscan food accompanied by a glass of fine Chianti.
