This is only a selection of the many events that take place in Siena every year.

JUNE-JULY-AUGUST

SIENA MUSIC WEEK
Classical music conserts and opera are organised all year round by the “Accademia Musicale Chigiana” with a peak during the Siena Music Week in July and August.

JAZZ FESTIVAL
In july and August the Association Siena Jazz organises many open-air concerts to celebrate jazz.

THE PALIO
The famous medieval horse tournament that takes place every year in July and August. The main focus of the celebration is a three-lap horse race around Piazza del Campo, Siena’s main square with a unique semicircular shape. The race is preceded by a colourful parade around the square including oxen pulled golden chariot. The event is much felt by the people from Siena who take part belonging to one of the 17 “contrade”, a sort of city districts dating back to the middle ages, which for the occasion reenact the old traditions of rivalry among them.

CINEMA & OPEN AIR THEATRE
During summer the project “Cinema in the Fortress” consists of the open-air projection of films at the Medici Fortress during June and July.
In August the movies are also screened in some of the parks in Siena as well as open-air theatre plays.
 

TRENO NATURA

Treno Natura is a relaxed train trip through the countryside south of Siena, from spring to autumn, these old-style trains depart on Sundays for the day through the Val d'Arbia, Val d'Orcia and La Crete. This seasonal adventure on a steam powered train takes you back to "another time" with its winding paths through the Sienese countryside. The trip begins in Siena and stops in Asciano and Monte Antico before returning to Siena.
