Corniglia Print E-mail

Placed on a steep promontory surrounded by vineyards, with two exclusive small beaches at its sides, Corniglia’s origins go back to the Roman times as testified by some wine amphorae uncovered in Pompeii where is legible the name of Cornelia. It can be accessed from the railway through a long flight of steps leading to the village.  The convergence of the narrow steep roads create a small square that is the heart of Corniglia, home to the Church of San Pietro dating back to the 14th century and one of the most significant monuments in the Gothic-Ligurian style of the Cinque Terre. On the mountain towering over the village, 390 m above sea level is San Bernardino, a small rural centre with the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie which is worth a visit for the breathtaking views over the village and the sea.
