The village itself is home to a museum and an art gallery, as well as the usual ski resort attractions. Abruzzo Looking to combine a cultural trip to Rome with a few days of skiing? If so, Abruzzo is a great option. With snow to rival the Alps and 368 kilometres of runs, the region is popular for downhill and cross-country skiing as well as other winter sports. The most developed ski resort is Roccaraso, which has 64 trails and 29 lifts. Cervinia Located at the base of the Matterhorn close to the famous Swiss resort of Zermatt, Cervinia is a good and inexpensive place to ski. The village is easily accessible and boasts a casino, swimming pool, movie theatre and skating rink, as well as access to one of the longest runs in the world. Advanced skiers also have the option of heading over to Zermatt for some more challenging slopes.
